Notes: Be able to sort through 2 cateogories: the type and topic of courses. Topics being: safety, leadership, communication, and something that encompasses software and things like ASHE.

Carpentry

Carpentry is one of the most popular trades in construction. WMCI offers three levels of training for students to advance their careers.

1.
Carpentry I

For: Entry-level. Learn the basics of Carpentry.

2.
Carpentry II

For: Construction professionals with 2-4 years of experience in the industry

3.
Carpentry III

For: Advanced carpenters looking to learn the skills to advance to the next level of carpentry management.

Professional Development

Training to help take you construction career to the next level.

Jobs in the construction industry are often referred to as “skilled” or “craft trades.” A skilled trades job is any occupation typically requiring skills learned through specialized training, apprenticeships, or on-the-job training.

Many of these jobs are experiencing high growth as they are well paid, active, engaging, and often hundreds of thousands of dollars less expensive to get into versus a white collar career that demands a 4-year university degree.

What You'll Learn

In WMCI’s general carpentry course, trainees to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. This curriculum covers content such as building materials, floor systems, and wall systems to successfully work in a variety of construction activities.

All trainees begin their journey in this course. After graduating, they will have the option to move up into Carpentry II, with Carpentry III following the next year.

Course Enhancements

In addition to the skills training, WMCI students also get to participate in the following unique and engaging ways:

 

INDUSTRY JOB SHADOWS

Students get to choose two trades to explore and have onsite job shadow experiences with experienced tradespeople.

JOBSITE VISITS

Students will have hands on field trip experiences on active, commercial, construction jobsites.

Subject Matter Experts

Learn what working in construction is really like and ask questions in interactive workshops with experts currently working in the industry.

Job Placement

Students may interview with industry employers ready to hire qualified professionals, if desired.

Enrollment FAQs

Is WMCI accredited?

West Michigan Construction Institute is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), a nationally recognized curriculum granting students portable credentials.

Are there any prerequisites to register for WMCI courses?

Students do not need to submit transcripts, grades, or proof of high school diploma to enroll in classes at WMCI. A deposit is due upon enrollment to secure the student’s seat in the class.

Does WMCI provide job placement assistance for graduates?

Career coaching is available for students interested in connecting with potential employers. WMCI is an education-focused institution that offers career coaching services but does not guarantee job placement.
